Frederick Adams was born in Long Melford in 1897, the son of Alexander and Bertha Adams. His father was a cocoa mat maker and his mother a horsehair weaver. The family lived at one time at Westgate Street, Long Melford, they later moved to 51 Melford Road in Sudbury. In 1911 Frederick aged 13 was living with his paternal grandmother in Westgate Street not far from his parents and two sisters and was employed as an ‘errand boy’.
Frederick enlisted and served with The Queen’s Regiment, it is not known when he transferred to the Labour Corps.
Frederick died from bronchial pneumonia at the 50th General Hospital, Salonika on 21 December 1918 aged 21. He lies buried in Mikra British Cemetery, Kalamaria, Greece.
Frederick was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
