103355 G.H.Q. (Salonika), Royal Field Artillery
Albert Bareham was born in Sudbury in 1892, one of four children of Daniel Bareham and stepson of Sarah Bareham. In 1911 the family was living at 4 Ada Cottages, Stebbing near Dunmow, Essex where Albert and his father were employed as farm labourers.
Albert enlisted in Sudbury and first served in France on 7 September 1915. It is not known when Albert went to Salonika. Anglo – French troops were sent to Salonika in October 1915 to aid Serbian troops who had been attacked by German, Austrian, Bulgarian and Hungarian forces.
It is possible that Albert was wounded during the Salonika campaign and transferred to a hospital on the base in Taranto, which was also an Allied naval base. He died on 26 August 1918 and lies buried in Taranto Town Cemetery Extension, Italy.
Albert was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
