Lance Corporal Fred Charles White

A medical record has been found for ‘Fred Charles White 45120’ but it has not been confirmed at the present time if it is the correct record for the above man.

The record states that between March 1915 and November 1918 Fred was hospitalised for 425 days:

1915: Admitted three times to Felixstowe Military hospital with an accidental gunshot wound to his left arm followed by influenza and then tonsillitis.

1916: 2 December – 24 August 1917 at E C Depot at Shoreham by the Sea with trench fever for 265 days. Given light duties and remedial exercises.

1917: Between 26 August - 11 September admitted twice for self inflicted neck wounds. November transferred to Eastern Hospital in Cambridge with ‘gastralgia’ (neuralgia of the stomach).

1918: 16 February – 4 April Eastern Hospital in Cambridge suffering from chronic Osiris
20 September – 9 November gunshot wound to left shoulder admitted to Northern Military Hospital in Leicester.

Fred was discharged on 9 November 1918 ‘Class III Employment’. It is not known when or where he died but his name was put forward to be included in the Roll of Honour in 1919.

Fred White is remembered on the Sudbury War Memorial.
